Sewing Clothes for Plus Sizes with Josephine Miller (Six Sessions)

NOTE: This class meets in six sessions, from 2:00-5:00 PM on February 20 & 27 and March 6, 13, 20 & 27. Registration from this page covers all six sessions.

Level: Advanced beginner. You should be comfortable using a sewing machine, and some experience with sewing patterns is encouraged but not required.

Ages: 14+

We provide: Expert instruction and use of a sewing machine and basic tool kit.

You bring: A copy of the Grainline Studio Scout Tee pattern (paper copies available in the store); muslin for a test version; and final fabric and notions as specified by the pattern. See the pattern envelope or ask Notion staff for fabric recommendations. Registered participants receive 10% off class supplies purchased at Notion.

Sewists with larger bodies often feel excluded from the worlds of both ready-to-wear and handmade fashion. Even sewing patterns that include your measurements may not accommodate your unique shape. Enter Josephine Miller's class at Notion! In a safe, body-positive environment, Josephine will walk you through the full process of garment fitting and construction. At every step along the way, she will address the unique concerns of sewing for plus sizes. Everyone will finish the course with a wearable garment that fits them. Those with more sewing experience may have time to add embellishments.

The Grainline Scout Tee is a very versatile pattern that is drafted to include hip measurements from 42-59 inches around (approximately sizes 12-32 in retail sizes). If your size falls outside the drafted range or if you have concerns regarding this pattern and your body, please get in touch so that adjustments can be made for you--ALL plus size bodies will be accommodated in this class.

Limited to 6 participants. Requires 3 participants to run. In the event of cancellation due to low enrollment, registered participants will receive notice and a refund 3 days prior to the scheduled start date of the series.

COVID-19 safety statement: This class will take place indoors with as much physical distancing as is feasible to provide quality hands-on instruction. Masks are required for all, regardless of vaccination status. Our staff is fully vaccinated. You will be updated via email if our health and safety procedures change.

I understand that participation in this class/event may include inherently dangerous activities, including but not limited to the use of scissors, rotary cutting blades, pins, needles, and other sharp implements; the use of motorized sewing machines with sharp, fast-moving parts; and the use of hot steam irons and other electrified and/or high-temperature equipment. I agree to exercise appropriate care when participating and to refrain from participating if I am taking medication or am under the influence of any substances with any tendency to affect negatively my motor skills or level of care and attention. I release from all claims, demands, liability, right or causes of action of whatsoever kind and waive my right to sue Notion LLC, their employees, officers, members, and agents from any and all claims in any way connected with any injury, illness (including death), or economic loss I may suffer or which may result from my participation in this class/event. If registering on behalf of a minor child, I acknowledge that I am their parent or legal guardian and agree to their participation and to the above liability waiver on their behalf.
